Sense of smell was once called the fallen angel of all our senses; still not fully understood and marginalised in our highly visual world, it has the unique ability to awaken dormant memories and whisk us off on paths long trodden and forgotten.   Maria Gower's collection of tactile and visually intriguing perfume bottles reflects on how we experience the world - through touch, through sight and through smell.

Maria Gower

Based in London, United Kingdom

Maria Gower graduated from The Cass, London in 2018 with BA with First Class Honours in Jewellery and Silversmithing, following her BA studies at Strzemiński Academy of Art Łódź, Poland.

Her work in silver and other metals explores the principles of unrestricted technique in contrast to the more traditional silversmithing values.  She observes the distinctions of different materials and processes, and delights in creating objects of substance and permanence with inherent beauty and merit, whilst preserving their strong wearable nature.

Her recent collection of perfume bottle necklaces playfully reflects on the nature of scent and its projection, and allows it to be “worn” quietly, unobtrusively, secretly.
